The onion-shell model of an asteroid interior shows likely locations of pieces that have since fallen to Earth as H-chondrite meteorites. The H6 chondrites that show evidence of the most severe metamorphism and were the most deeply buried; H5, H4 and H3 chondrites, which were less affected by thermal metamorphism, came from shallower levels. The different textures of the chondrites are seen in the micrographs at left and right.
