A four-person team from the University of Miami took second place in NASA's competition for college students to design a small transport aircraft for 2058. The team's concept was called the Quiet Ultra-Efficient Integrated Aircraft (QUEIA for short) and resembles the Boeing/NASA X-48B experimental blended wing body aircraft that is now being flight-tested at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center. Many aviation experts think the blended wing body concept represents the best approach to finding a fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly airliner of tomorrow.
