From the eastern seaboard of the United States and from Maritime Canada, Jupiter will hide three of its Galilean moons shortly after rising. The configuration here is shown at 03:50 UT on 22 May 2008, which translates to 11:50 pm Eastern time on 21 May, or 12:50 am Atlantic time on 22 May. Observers (follow the green arrow to the Earth) will see Europa passing in front of Jupiter, while Io, Callisto, and Ganymede will all briefly be hidden from view (some eclipsed by Jupiter's shadow, others simply occulted by its disc).
