Jim Solly headed out to do some deep-space observing with his telescope at about 22:15 GMT on Nov. 20 near Edinburgh, Scotland. I looked up and thought, 'Where is all that light coming from?' Realizing it was the most spectacular aurora I have ever seen, he got his camera instead.
