Two companies founded by former astronaut Charles "Pete" Conrad have announced new appointments in the aftermath of his death last month.
Universal Space Lines (USL) has appointed Adrian S. Hooper as president and acting chairman in order to replace Conrad, who had founded the company. Nancy Conrad, the former astronaut's widow, also has been appointed to the board. Hooper was previously a board member.
Universal Space Network (USN), which was chaired and co-founded by Conrad, has appointed T.K. Mattingly as chairman. Mattingly is a former Navy Rear Admiral.
USL works on a variety of satellite and rocket projects. USN operates a network of satellite ground stations. USL is a major shareholder in USN. Both companies are based in Newport, California.
Conrad died on July 8 in a motorcycle accident.
