SpaceA space.com survey released today shows broad support among Americans for the International Space Station as well as a desire to continue current spending levels on the space program. According to a survey commissioned by space.com and conducted by Yankelovich Partners, 69% of those surveyed think the United States is spending the right amount or too little on its space program. (46% feel the U.S. is spending the right amount, while 23% think the U.S. is spending too little.) In addition, 3 of 5 Americans think the International Space Station is a good investment. Finally, the majority of Americans believe there are important benefits from the U.S. space program, including educating young people about science (91% say this is "very important"); increasing our knowledge about the earth's environment (89% say this is "very important"); and providing new cutting edge technologies (76% say this is "very important"). The results of the survey were released as the House of Representatives continued its debate on proposals to cut 10% of NASA's budget. Space.com, which launched on July 20, is a website dedicated to news, information, education, and entertainment focused entirely on space and space-related content.
