no_mir_movie There will be no professional filmmaker in space in the near future. Russias RKK Energia officially decided on Thursday to not allow a Russian actor to travel to Mir to perform in the first film shot in space. As SPACE.com reported on Tuesday, the reason for the cancellation was lack of payment by the movies producers for actor Vladimir Steklovs trip on the 28th Mir expedition set to depart April 4. The representatives of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (TsPK), in Zvezdny Gorodok, complained that their expenses for Steklov's training were also only partially compensated. Yuri Grigoriev, Deputy Designer General of RKK Energia, which runs the Mir space station, said this week that they have their own bill to pay associated with the actor's mission. "There was agreement in the contract between us (RKK Energia) and producers to deliver certain payment prior to launch, and this never happened," Grigoriev said. A payload container will be fitted in place of Steklov's seat on board a Soyuz spacecraft, which will carry commander Sergei Zaletin and flight engineer Alexander Kaleri to the Mir on a mission officially scheduled to last 45 days.
