Russian cargo spaceship docks with Mir

MOSCOW -- An unmanned Russian cargo spacecraft carrying supplies for the aging Mir space station successfully docked with the station yesterday, a spokesman for Russia's mission control said.

The Progress M-42, whose launch from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan had been delayed for two days by a row between Kazakh authorities and Russia, docked with Mir at 9:53 p.m. (1753 GMT), the spokesman told Reuters.

Kazakhstan briefly banned all space launches from Baikonur after a Russian booster rocket exploded soon after take-off on July 5, scattering debris over parts of Kazakhstan.

The Progress delivered food, oxygen and a navigation system to Mir's Russian and French crew.
