Cyber Space Day is the main event on Space Day, marked each year since 1997 on the first Thursday in May to commemorate President John Kennedys commitment to the Moon landing effort in May 1961.

The Space Day consortium of aerospace firms and educational institutions has organized a nationwide slate of activities: Check the Space Day Web site for details.

Cyber Space Day, which will be transmitted over the Internet via SPACE.com and other media outlets, runs from noon to 2 p.m. EDT (16:00 to 18:00 GMT) Thursday. Among the scheduled Webcast guests are retired senator-astronaut John Glenn, co-chair of Space Day; Roger Crouch, chief scientist for the International Space Station and NASA scientist Kathryn Clark.

Astronauts Tom Jones and Wendy Lawrence will discuss their experiences aboard the space shuttle and space station. And a special greeting from the space stations current crew will provide a glimpse into the lives of those living and working in space.

Station crew members will answer questions submitted by students in the Space Day Global Classroom. Cyber Space Day participants will also be able to ask questions of the other Webcast guests via e-mail and can share their opinions through unique Space Day polls and quizzes.

The Webcast will feature several of the 12 teams selected for their "Stellar" solutions to the design challenges of living and working in space the educational centerpiece of the Space Day initiative.

Also, the results of the first Space Day Student Survey will be discussed. Conducted in cooperation with USA Today Education, the survey explores students perceptions and priorities for space travel and scientific study.

Cyber Space Day is produced in cooperation with the Smithsonians National Air and Space Museum, the Johnson Space Center and SPACE.com.
