HUNTSVILLE, Alabama --- U.S. SPACE CAMP and space.com, two leaders in space science education, announced Friday that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to promote education and space exploration.
At a news conference at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Dr. Sally Ride, president of space.com and the first American woman in space, underscored the importance of the relationship between space.com, the U.S. SPACE CAMP Foundation and the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission.
"Our organizations are dedicated to motivating young people and kindling their enthusiasm for science and space," said Dr. Ride. "We are thrilled to be able to collaborate on a number of exciting and creative programs."
U.S. Space & Rocket Center CEO Bill Stender joined Dr. Ride at the news conference, adding, "This offers an excellent opportunity to further develop our commitment to reach students with the message of space science education."
Under the terms of the agreement, space.com and Space Camp will have the opportunity to collaborate on a number of projects, including the development of space-related educational material; online question and answer sessions with astronauts; sponsored space contests and the design of interactive, customized space electronic-cards. In addition, space.com may become the official commercial space website for U.S. Space Camp and host Space Camp chat sessions.
As the first concrete step in these collaborative efforts, Space Camp is sponsoring a weekly space quiz, which will appear in the kids section of space.com, and space.com is supplying information about Space Camp and its locations in its kids section of the site.
