WASHINGTON U WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-California) will return for a third term as chairman of the House Science space and aeronautics subcommittee, a spokesman for the lawmaker said Jan. 10. "Congressman Rohrabacher is going to remain the space and aeronautics chairman," Ricardo Bernal, the spokesman, told Spacenews.com. Formal announcements of House subcommittee appointments have not been made, but the space and aeronautics panel, which oversees NASA, is expected to see few new members, Bernal said.Rohrabacher represents a southern California district that is home to several aerospace companies. The seven-term congressman is a vocal proponent of cheaper access to space and has frequently clashed with NASA officials over Russian participation in the International Space Station. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert (R-New York) was chosen Jan. 4 to serve as chairman of the House Science Committee, which includes the space and aeronautics subcommittee. He follows Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin), who will move to chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
