goldin_bush_admin_010122 WASHINGTON -- NASA notified employees today that Daniel S. Goldin is staying on as the agencys chief until the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush makes some final decisions about who will lead the space agency. "I serve at the pleasure of the president of the United States," Goldin said in a memo sent to all NASA Headquarters and field center employees Jan. 22. "I am pleased to be of assistance during this transition process. I am committed to making this transition smooth, and I expect that every employee will support that goal." Courtney Stadd, who advised the Bush transition team on NASA issues, will serve as NASAs chief of staff and White House liaison. Stadd, an investor and consultant who lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland, served in the administration of Bushs father as senior director for commercial space policy at the White House National Space Council. NASA also announced temporary replacements for several top-level managers who had been appointed to their jobs by former President Bill Clinton. - Steve Varholy replaces Arnold Holz as acting chief financial Officer.
- Mary Dee Kerwin replaces Edward Heffernan as acting associate administrator for legislative affairs. Heffernan had also served as Goldins chief of staff.
- Paula Cleggett replaces Peggy Wilhide as acting associate administrator for public affairs.
- Beth McCormick replaces Lori Garver as acting associate administrator for policy and plans.
