WASHINGTON (States News Service) -- NASA came one step closer to receiving all the money the President requested for it when the Senate Appropriations Committee approved its funding at $13.587 billion.
The mark-up bill will now head to the Senate floor next week, possibly as early as Tuesday.
When the House of Representatives passed the VA-HUD bill, which includes NASA's budget, they cut almost $1 billion from the space agency's funding.
But so far, the Senate seems inclined to fully fund NASA's budget, including:
- $5.424 billion for science, aeronautics and technology;
- $3.156 billion for launch vehicles and payload operations;
- $2.495 billion for mission support;
- $2.482 billion for the International Space Station;
- $20 million for the Inspector General.
From the Senate floor, the spending bill will go to conference with the House, and finally to the President.
