MOSCOW (Interfax) -- The Russian Space Force has succeeded in restoring communications with the four military satellites lost due to a fire at a command post 22 miles (35 kilometers) northwest of Serpukhov, Kaluga region, force commander Col. Gen. Anatoly Perminov told Interfax on Monday.

Engineers had to work around the clock to restore communications via another ground-control facility. The damaged command post building will be rebuilt with more advanced hardware, Perminov said.

A commission of inquiry is investigating the fire's cause. Perminov said he believes a short circuit in the post's power supply system was to blame.

The fire destroyed all communications links, some of them underground, in the command post, local authorities say.
