WASHINGTON Think big and dream large.

That was the theme Friday night at the 43rd Annual Goddard Memorial Dinner, where more than 2,500 aerospace executives, government officials and space educators gathered to mark last year's achievements in space. The black-tie event, held at the Washington Hilton Hotel, was sponsored by the National Space Club of Washington, D.C.

Keynote speaker Lou Dobbs, chairman and CEO of SPACE.com, urged NASA and the aerospace industry to keep its vision in the wake of last years failed Mars missions and a barrage of criticism against the space program.

"The future," Dobbs said, "is exceedingly bright."

Keith Hall, assistant secretary of the Air Force for space and director of the National Reconnaissance Office took home the nights top award, the Dr. Robert H. Goddard Memorial Trophy. Hall was cited for great achievement in advancing spaceflight programs contributing to U.S. leadership in astronautics.

Other winners and their awards:

John McFadden, Calvert (Maryland) High School won the Olin E. Teague Memorial Scholarship for an outstanding graduating high school senior who intends to pursue higher education in science and technology.

Adam Coker, Georgia Institute of Technology won the Dr. Robert H. Goddard Scholarship for a student who is a junior in college and intends to pursue studies in science and engineering.

Jennifer Murray, NASA Kennedy Space Center won the Dr. George M. Low Memorial Engineering Fellowship for post-graduate study by a career NASA employee engaged in one of the engineering disciplines.

Andre Miller, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center won the James E. Webb Memorial Space Administration Fellowship for post-graduate study by a career NASA employee engaged in administration or management.

Col. John Cunningham, National Reconnaissance Office won the Dr. Joseph V. Charyk Award for outstanding personal contribution to the national intelligence space program.

Kevin Schrab, National Weather Service and Fuzhong Weng, National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service won the NOAA-David Johnson Award for outstanding innovation in the use of satellite data for operational environmental applications.

Lynn Bondurant, NASA Glenn Research Center, won the National Space Club Space Educator Award for leadership in space education.

William Kidd, USA orbiter electrical engineer, Michael Stirling, BNA LSS orbiter electrical engineer and Steven Sullivan, NASA electrical engineer won the Eagle Manned Mission Success Award for significant contributions to the U.S. piloted space flight program.

Leonard Nicholson, engineering director, NASA Johnson Space Center won the Astronautics Engineer Award for outstanding contribution in engineering management.

NASA/JPL Galileo team won the Nelson P. Jackson Aerospace Award for outstanding contribution to the missile, aircraft and space field.
