GAO to Study How NASA Budget Effects Space Industry

WASHINGTON (States News Service) - The House passed an amendment to study the impact of NASA's budget on the commercial space launch industry.

The amendment, tacked on to a House bill to extend launch indemnification, requires the General Accounting Office to draft a report on how the VA-HUD spending bill affects future development of the commercial space industry. The spending bill includes NASA's budget.

The GAO would consult with NASA and the space industry, and draft the report within 90 days of the president's signing the act into law.

The measure was proposed by Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Massachusetts) at the height of deliberations over NASA's budget.
