Bluford, Dobbs Join Space Foundation Board

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (August 24, 2000) - A veteran NASA astronaut and the founder of the leading space Internet site are the latest leaders to join the Space Foundation's Board of Directors, Foundation officials announced today COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 24, 2000 -- A veteran NASA astronaut and the founder of the leading space internet site are the latest leaders to join the Space Foundation's Board of Directors, Foundation officials announced today. Dr. Guion S. Bluford, Jr., vice president and general manager for Federal Data Corporation (FDC) and program manager of the NASA Glenn Research Center's Microgravity Research, Development and Operations Contract and Lou Dobbs, chairman and CEO of SPACE.com have been elected to three-year terms. Bluford served 29 years in the United States Air Force and flew as a mission specialist and payload commander on four space shuttle missions, logging more than 688 hours in space. In his current position he is responsible for the design, development, integration and operational support of the NASA Fluids and Combustion Facility and associated spaceflight experiment hardware for the International Space Station. Dobbs founded the New York-based SPACE.com in 1999. He was previously founder and president of CNNfn and CNNfn.com, executive vice president of CNN and a member of the network's executive committee. He joined CNN at its inception in 1980 and was the anchor of Moneyline News Hour with Lou Dobbs. "The addition of pioneers like Guy Bluford and Lou Dobbs to the Space Foundation team lends vision and vitality to both our space-awareness and space-education missions," commented Jaime Oaxaca, chairman of the board and interim CEO. "We are proud and delighted to have them join us along with recently elected board members Jim Albaugh of Boeing, Al Smith of Lockheed Martin and Dr. Jaleh Daie of the Packard Foundation."
