Kids in Space Contest

If children are the future, the time to start challenging them is now. That's the idea behind a contest being run by the Space Frontier Foundation and Applied Space Resources, Inc. The goal is to encourage tomorrow's astronauts to take on the challenges of the 21st Century. Space.com will support the effort by contributing prizes and publishing the winning entries.

Kids aged 6-9 are invited to submit artwork that addresses the question, "What would your home in space look like?" Older kids, aged 10-13, are asked to write an essay that describes "a typical workday for your job in space." Teenagers (14-17) will team up to design "an orbiting space hotel (e.g., hotel layout, size, building materials, number of guests, activities available for hotel guests, transportation, life support, food and supplies needed, guest charges, construction history)."

The deadline for submission of entries is September 17, 1999.
