Popular Brazilian recording artist, Lulu Santos, hopes his new song, "Todo Universo", climbs high on the music charts. He's got a good start recording part of his music video for the new release in zero-gravity. Santos and a film crew made use of Russian Space Agency's IL-76 MDK zero-gravity plane. Parabolic maneuvers by the aircraft create periods of microgravity inside the cabin. Working with Incredible Adventures, Inc. of Sarasota, Florida and the Russian Space Agency, Santos took to the sky, making use of a "flying carpet" during the filmed sequence. I want my MTV The zero-gravity portion of the Lulu Santos music video was filmed during a May 28 zero-gravity flight in Moscow, said Jane Reifert, President of Incredible Adventures, Inc. of Sarasota, Florida. The flight itself was roughly 1 1/2 hours long, she said. To mimic microgravity, the Russian flying laboratory conducts a series of parabolic maneuvers. Each of the roller coaster-like maneuvers yields roughly 25 seconds of weightlessness. Floating within the comfort of the aircraft's large cabin, Santos and film assistants shot the video footage. The music video will debut on MTV Brazil on June 5 and then on Brazil's TV Globo that following Sunday, Reifert said. Lulu's musical career spans more than twenty years. He is considered one of the most popular Brazilian pop artists with a long string of recordings. Flying carpet The original script called for the use of a bed and nightstands as props, so Santos could appear to be dreaming. But once the producers realized the difficulty of dealing with large props in weightlessness, the segment was rewritten to include a simple flying carpet, Reifert told SPACE.com. "Because we weren't quite sure how the Brazilian cameraman would handle zero-gravity -- some people become nauseous during a flight -- Incredible Adventures arranged for "back-up" video to be filmed by a cameraman employed by Russia's Star City, and experienced in filming in a weightless environment," Reifert said. Incredible Adventures offers a wide range of popular, thrill-seeker packages, including Russian MiG flights, Cosmonaut training activities, as well as zero-gravity passenger hops.
