The total cost of the Voyager mission from May 1972 through the Neptune encounter (including launch vehicles and tracking efforts by the Deep Space Network) was $865 million, NASA says. That amounted to some 20 cents per U.S. resident per year at the time. And it's about 2-3 times what's spent on the average Mars mission nowadays.
