CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Rather than sending up a cargo container in the place of 'N Sync singer Lance Bass, the Russians are flying a cosmonaut to the International Space Station at the end of October.

The Soyuz taxi crew, then, will be at its full complement of three members.

Yuri Lonchakov of the Russian Air Force will be making his second trip to the International Space Station on Oct. 27. He previously flew to Alpha in April 2001, when shuttle Endeavour delivered the station's Canadian robot arm.

Bass' trip was called off when his sponsors, who hoped to make a reality TV series out of his experiences, failed to come up with enough payments on the $20 million fee charged by the Russians. He has continued training for a possible future flight.

Lonchakov will be joining previously announced crew members Frank De Winne of Belgium and commander Sergei Zaletin on the Soyuz, which will launch from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan.

The men are expected to undock on Nov. 7, so they'll be gone by the time Endeavour launches on Nov. 10 for its station mission.

The Soyuz capsule on the station, which can be used as an escape pod by the three-person station crew, has to be replaced about every six months.
