If youve got an old clunker out in the driveway with a lot of mileage on the odometer, take heart. Consider the number of miles each of NASAs shuttle orbiters have traveled:

  • Columbia: 115,066,632 miles (184,106,611 kilometers).
  • Discovery: 83,639,751 miles (133,823,602 kilometers).
  • Atlantis: 71,357,181 miles (114,171,490 kilometers).
  • Endeavour: 58,867,862 miles (94,188,579 kilometers).
  • Challenger: 25,844,439 miles (41,351,102 kilometers).

Fleet Total: 354,775,865 miles (567,641,384 kilometers).

Notes: Total mileage based in part on an estimate of miles traveled on classified Department of Defense missions. Challenger and its crew of seven were lost January 28, 1986 when the ship broke up 73.6 seconds into flight because of a fuel tank explosion.
