9. How will the mission be tracked?

There are four Chinese Yuan Wang space-tracking ships, located:

  • Off the north-eastern coast of China
  • North-east of the northern island of New Zealand
  • Off the coast of Angola
  • South-western Australian coast

There is also a Chinese-built tracking and control station in Namibia, with construction completed in mid-2001. This could reduce the tracking ship fleet by one, meaning no need for ship to be stationed off the African coast. [ Latest Mission News ]
