A
spacesuit engineer simulates working in a moon crater inside Johnson Space
Center's Lunar Yard in Houston, Texas.
NASA
engineer Dustin Gohmert is part of a team working to improve technology designs
for Constellation astronauts returning to the moon in 2020. His ride sits in
the background a lunar
truck prototype called the Chariot that can lower itself all the way to the
ground and swivel its wheels independently of one another.
The
space agency had originally contracted with Oceaneering International Inc. for
new spacesuits that could serve astronauts in orbit and on the moon. However,
the contract is currently undergoing
review while NASA examines a compliance issue.
