NASA's Opportunity
Rover gets a panoramic view of Victoria Crater on Mars.
Four months
prior to its fourth landing anniversary, the robotic explorer scouted for rocks
in an alcove called "Duck Bay" in the western portion of Victoria Crater. The
main portion of the crater appears in the upper right of the image between the
rocky outcroppings "Cape
Verde" and
"Cabo Frio," with the far side of the crater about half a mile
distant.
This view
from inside "Duck Bay" combines many images taken by Opportunity's "Pancam" from Oct. 23 to Dec. 11, 2007. Filters create an approximately true-color panorama of the
Martian landscape, although some dark and light patterns arise from dust
sitting on the camera window.
