skyward atop an Ariane 5 rocket in the first launch of the year for the
heavy-lift booster.
The
Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket launched
the British Skynet-5A military communications satellite [image]
and India’s INSAT-4Bbroadcast television satellite [image]
into orbit on March 11, 2007. Here, a photographer catches the rocket’s liftoff
from its launch pad at Europe’s Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.
Arianespace
plans up to six launches this year from the French Guiana spaceport, where construction is underway
on a new launch pad for Russian Soyuz rockets as well.
