The
privately financed Genesis-1
module continues to operate well as it circles the Earth.
Seen
here is a new image showing several of the vessel’s outstretched solar panels taken
by one of seven cameras attached to the outside of the expandable structure.
Designed
and built by Bigelow
Aerospace of Las Vegas, Nevada, ground controllers at the firm’s mission
control have received hundreds of internal and external shots from their
spacecraft – prototype technology for ever-larger
habitats.
The
Genesis-1 was lofted into orbit by a converted Cold War SS-18 ICBM, launched
from the Yasny military base in Russia on July 12.
The
private company reports all is going well in the testing of Genesis-1 systems
as a prelude to full-sized habitats able to support people and experimental
payloads.
