This Cassini spacecraft narrow angle camera view of Saturn's southern polar region features a bright white spot, or storm, surrounded by faint, darker swirls of clouds
This Cassini spacecraft took this picture of Saturn's southern polar region
on July 22, revealing a bright white spot, or storm, surrounded by faint, darker
swirls of clouds. The image was released Friday.
Storms are common on Saturn and Jupiter. Some last for centuries. Others merge
or dissipate in months or years.
Cassini was about 4.2 million miles (6.7 million kilometers) from Saturn when
it took this picture. Contrast was slightly enhanced to bring out features in
the atmosphere.
