Untitled Document
David Quint of Columbia,
Tennessee captured this view of the crescent Moon and Venus shortly after sunset
on Thursday, May 20.
On Friday, the
Moon will pass in front of Venus for some viewers, mostly in Europe and
Asia. And for other skywatchers, the two objects will be closer in the sky than
they are in this photo.
Venus' days as the beacon
of the evening sky are numbered. By early June it will be lost in the Sun's
glare, setting up a rare
transit of Venus across the Sun on June 8. That event will be visible to
many properly prepared observers around the world.
