CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Enjoy this file photo of a mighty Air Force Titan 4 rocket from Lockheed Martin while you are able as the days for this heavy-lifting launcher are numbered.
Two missions are planned to fly from the Cape this year, with the first now targeted for blastoff on February 14 when a missile warning satellite is to be carried into Earth orbit.
A National Reconnaissance Office spy satellite is then targeted to fly later in the year.
The two-stage rocket with attached twin solid rocket boosters -- which sometimes included a Centaur upper stage as seen here -- can trace its heritage back to the original silo-stationed Titan intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The remaining already-built Titan 4 boosters will be flown out and then give way to the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle families of Delta 4 and Atlas 5 rockets.
