CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- This view of a Russian spacecraft was captured by an International Space Station crew member Aug. 30 as the vehicle approached to dock with the outpost.
Designated Progress 12 by NASA, or Progress M-48 by the Russian space agency, the unmanned freighter carried some three tons of food, fuel, water, supplies and other equipment to the ISS for use by the Expedition Seven crew of Ed Lu and Yuri Malenchenko.
Much of the inventory also is intended for use by the Expedition Eight crew of Mike Foale and Alexander Kaleri, who are due to be launched to the outpost aboard the Soyuz TMA-3 spacecraft in October.
Following its launch on Aug. 28, this Progress cargo ship automatically docked with the station at 11:40 p.m. EDT Aug. 30 (0340 GMT Aug. 31) as the orbiting complex was flying over Central Asia at an altitude of 240 statute miles (386 kilometers).
