Saturn's B
ring displays an irregular appearance in this image taken by the Cassini
spacecraft. This spoke-forming region frequently appears this way.
The B-ring is
the innermost of Saturn's two bright rings. The Cassini Division in the rings
is visible at lower left. In this view, Cassini spacecraft looks toward the
unilluminated side of the rings from about 5 degrees above the ringplane.
The image
was taken on Oct. 21, 2007 in visible red light, using the Cassini spacecraft
narrow-angle camera. The view was obtained at a distance of approximately 1
million miles (1.7 million kilometers) from Saturn and at a
Sun-ring-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 68 degrees.
