TRACK: Happy Blues for John Glenn
The blues great was inspired to write this tribute while watching television reports of John Glenn's historic flight in his landlady’s kitchen. A straightforward blues number, it downplays the Space Race and all its geopolitical undercurrents in favor of a whimsical take on Glenn’s purpose in space: "People was sittin' all this morning with this on their minds/ There ain't no man living can go around the world three times/ But John Glenn done it!/ Yes he did! He did it and I'm talkin' about it/ Only he did it just for fun ..." When you stop and think about it, Glenn probably had a great time.
