A lot of people find the singing and lyrics of Counting Crows front-man Adam Duritz annoying, but we’ve decided these people are just not listening.
On the title track of the band’s sophomore outing, Duritz is on his best behavior, keeping his spastic caterwaul to a minimum, while lyrically crafting a song about friendships and family ties that’s as evocative in its romantic imagery as it is catchy: "But we only stay in orbit/ For a moment of time/ And then you're everybody's satellite/ I wish that you were mine…" A triumph of metaphor.
