IMO, Reid followed Pelosi's lead on health care - except that he supposedly watered down the Public option.
Except that once you hear that the Public Option provisions have been watered down, something new (seemingly) gets placed in the umpteenth version of this bill which 'unwaters-down' the Public Option.

Pelosi, Franks, Miller, Reid, Waxman, etc. etc. are straight out of the Gray Davis loving, California left coast, Berkeley-ite, free-speach radicalism. Ok so maybe not Franks & Reid exactly. But this crowd wants full blown National Health Care, even now, whereas publicly they are crowing that they have toned down the bill away from National Health Care, that the votes aren't there for full blown National Health Care.

Its not true. That crowd is still even at this time making the push for NHC.

Still the point is -- that the political point of view of the above is representative of a very narrow range of constituents. This is why the health care committees were formed to shut out opposing points of view, even from those within their own party.

I'd even venture forth and say that to an extent, Obama himself has been shut out of this process by the likes of Reid & Pelosi. There is some incredibly intense DC politicking going on over this bill.

So somehow, the weak-willed Republicans are going to have to muster a conter-offensive in next year's election so those parts of this bill which don't actually go into effect until a couple years down the road -- can be offset or even eliminated.

There is going to have to be a way out for those -- and its a large part of the population -- who don't want to cowtow to the far left vision of what ails Health Care and what needs to be fixed. close(-)

The reasoning being that it is revenue neutral, but still puts money back in the hands of those, businesses, individuals, who could use it right now. close(-)

But Americans are good at putting things off as long as possible. Why do today what we could put off till tomorrow?

Actually attempts to rein in health care costs go back to at least the early 80s with the concept of Diagnosis Related Groupings (DRG). close(-)
