That would have been a good candidate if the mystery of what the object was could have been prolonged, but the photograph was very well debunked by yourself Silylene, when you pointed out it was nothing more than a giant e.coli swimming along. Once you had made that post, the photograph was no longer a mystery.

Since SDC is primarily a science forum, I think the favourite thread ought to have lots of long words and mathematical equations and so on in it, in order to be as impressive as possible to any lay people who read the threads. For SDC to be classed as a serious science forum, it's important that non-scientists haven't got a clue what the scientists are talking about and extensive use of terms such as "axiomatic mathematics," "exothermic reaction" and "omni-directional propulsion" can be very useful for this purpose.

If anyone has posted something similar to a quote by Herbert Spencer anywhere, such as "Evolution is an integration of matter and concomitant dissipation of motion; during which the matter passes from an indefinite incoherent homogeneity to a definite, coherent heterogeneity, and during which the retained motion undergoes a parallel transformation"that would be a superb example of the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Another possibility would be to find a thread with as much technical jargon in it as possible. I'm sure such a thread can be found in Missions and Launches somewhere, such as in one of the NASA shuttle mission threads. That's where terms such as "ACRIM" ( Active Cavity Radiometer Irradiance Monitor) or "ASTER" (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) and so on might be found. close(-)

The Google feature is about 10 degrees farther up North and about 40 degrees eastward, so it's not terribly far from Copernicus. Actually I should be able to calculate the distance between these two locations using basic spherical trigonometry, the formula is cos x = cos 41.1 * cos 9.7 * cos 19.6 + sin 9.7 * sin 19.6 = 40.9 degrees distance between these features, which would be roughly 1240 kilometers on the moon (pi * 3474 km * 40.9 / 360).

The features seem to be further apart than I originally thought.

I wouldn't have thought they mean the hundreds of fake crop circles that appear every summer in the newspapers during the silly season, such as those made by these people. That would be silly.
