I spent three nights capturing these. The footage is a bit short and the credits long, but I wanted to use the whole soundtrack.

Like a lot of astrophotographers, I get repeated questions on how to do things that although may seem simple, I have to remind myself that they were once beyond me...

So last night, I sat up all night and stacked some images in Deep Sky Stacker, taking screenshots all the way and writing down what I did as I went.

Hopefully this can answer a lot of questions and get the new blood in the game well on their way to adding to the richness of images proliferating amateur astronomy.

I have been sitting on these images for quite some time now. I think I have taken the standard 18-55mm Canon lens to it's limits here and haven't really been satisfied enough with the results to make individual videos.

It's seemed a bit of a shame to waste all this capture though, so I put them together for a bit of a composite movie.

In a 35 second exposure, with stretching in el-cheapo and limited batch processors, this is about the limit of 18mm at F/3.5.

Someone give me a F/1.8!!! PLeeeeaaasssseeee..

NGC1365 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Fornax, approximately 56 million light-years away. This is a four hour, 20 minute exposure captured last night here at ASIGN Observatory.

The blue regions in the spiral arms indicate a strong density wave of hot, active star-growth and a fast rotation.

Taken with Skywatcher Black Diamond ED120 and Orion Starshoot Pro III Colour CCD
Autoguided on an EQ6 mount.

Captured and stacked in MaxIm DL Essentials
PP in Photoshop Elements 6

13 Subs of 20 minutes each
Calibrated with 10 x 20 minute darks, 10 x 0.04 Sec Flats and 0.04 sec Flat Darks.

It's times like these pretty little galaxies that I wish I had a bigger aperture and a longer focal length!

There were a few clouds about tonight on new moon, but I thought I would take a drive out of the city anyway and let my God lead.

As it turned out, the sky cleared beautifully. I was just driving along the back roads that skirt the mountains and looking for a nice foreground to frame some widefields.

The tracking station seemed the spot to start while the clouds were still about, but after they cleared the hunt was on. I pulled up several times and set the tripod up with the Canon 400D and an 18-55mm kit lens.

Most of the shots were 30 seconds, but I took a heap of the centre of the MW for a reasonable stack in DSS. It made all the difference.

Fun fun fun..
