It was a well done "Blair Witch Project" style movie. The producer created the perfect deception! Mix in truth with fiction and you'll have the audience guessing. However, this is just a movie. The "real" police videos are obviously fake since there are no mountains or forest/tall trees in Nome. close(-)

Here it goes: My name is Derick and I live in Austin, Tx. We moved here from Santa Cruz, Ca in 1994. I work in the semiconductor industry as an Implant (no not boobs) Technician and have so since my Bachelors in 1988.

My love for Astronomy started at 4. I remember the day. It was my birthday and I got a book about an astronaut flying to the moon. By the time I was 6, I knew every statistic about the planets. In 2nd grade I was doing 6th math..all alone in the corner. I knew I wanted to be an Astronomer! It was my passion.

My how things change. At the age of 16 my grandfather took me into his work. He worked for the Dept. of Labor in Linclon, Nebraska, and had me take the State Entrance Exam. While waiting on results in his office, I noticed a book, a thick book, titled something like "The Average Wages of all Jobs in America". Obviously I look at Astronomer...and obviously was disappointed. This was 1984, pre Hubble days, the average salary was $1200/month. I knew then, that wasn’t much. (By the way, I passed.)

Well, I gave up my dream and decided on programming. That year my grandparents bought me a Commodore 64 and I began learning BASIC and later, assembly programming. I loved to program. Even lost a girlfriend over it. Then my best-friend said there's more money in electronics. So, instead, I got the electronics degree. See a pattern? Hum, I don't recommend this path to anyone.

After college I married women with 2 wonderful kids from a previous marriage. Then had 2 our own. Now I'm a 42 year old grandfather of, soon to be, 3 (2-girls and 1-boy). Since college I've studied Martial Arts (Kung-fu), classical piano, continue to bowl since I was 8, and now took up golf. I've also taken business courses on and off over the last 5 years but really have no plans to go into business, booorrrriinnnnggg. Over the last few years, my love for astronomy/astrophysics has renewed. That’s how I came to be here. One other note, I have created a skeleton of a new economic system. The jest of it is at http://www.22ndcenturyeconomics.com. As far as spiritual belief, yes I have one…but don’t we all? Or not?

My wife is an abstract artist who has sold paintings worldwide. My oldest boy is in the Navy in Hawaii ready to have his 1st son. The rest us reside here in Austin at various stages of normal life.

Well that about it. I haven't been shot or anything, but have done some interesting things. Best wishes to all! close(-)

Heaven is a relative term. "One's person heaven is another's hell." Religion technically is not part of this question and I don't believe the questionnaire was referring to a Christian God like heaven but YOUR heaven.

My answer is No. Actually we're a bit closer to the hell side of things IMO. Observe this, humans are about 95% governed by their physical body; hunger, thirst, sexual desires, physiological makeup and so forth. Look at what we endure just to feed and house our decaying bodies. Most of us have to wake up early in the morning to go to an unfulfilling job we spent 16 years training for to look financially appealing to the opposite sex, attracting a mate, to procreate little ones to do the same thing. Good grief. Finally, I’m getting old enough where my testosterone levels are not bugging me every day, if you know what I mean, I can finally focus on more intellectual matters!

Life is more about relative heavens; seeing the Sombrero galaxy through my telescope, rolling around and playing with my puppies, watching my kids struggle to better themselves, a beautiful sunset or even contemplating flying by a neutron star. Those are little wins (the other 5%) I do everyday to create heaven in my life. close(-)
