SpaceDev Inc., which hopes to turn space exploration into a profitable venture, announced today it has made its first commercial sale to deliver a package from Earth to a near-Earth asteroid.

SpaceDev signed a contract worth $200,000 with Dojin Limited, of Tyler, Texas, to carry the company's "digital passenger" CD's to space on SpaceDev's yet-to-be built Near-Earth Asteroid Prospector. Dojin will sell room on the CD to people who want their names and images sent to space.

"This contract validates one of the several revenue producing approaches we are offering on the NEAP project," said Jim Benson, chairman and chief executive officer of SpaceDev.

SpaceDev stock was unchanged at 2:30 p.m. EDT, at $2.
