WASHINGTON -- China Satellite Launch and Tracking Control General and the Swedish Space Corp. have signed an agreement to provide mutual ground station support to track satellites, according to a Jan. 23 Swedish Space Corp. statement.

The agreement will allow the organizations to purchase ground support services from the other party’s resources, and is expected to take effect in late 2001, the statement said.

Swedish Space, Kiruna, Sweden, provides support to operators of satellites and owns control centers and ground stations in Sweden, and 50 percent of the Tromso Satellite Station in Norway. It already has a similar agreement with Horsham, Pennsylvania-based Universal Space Network, Inc., which operates the PrioraNet global network of ground stations. PrioraNet’s resources will be available to China Satellite Launch and Tracking Control General (CLTC).
