Earth’s Radiation Belts’ Reaction to Injection of Electrons Visualized
By Steve Spaleta |
A geomagnetic storm injected electrons into the radiation belts in June 2015. The Magnetic Electron and Ion Spectrometer (MagEIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Van Allen Probes gave scientists a new perspective on the belts' reaction. “Red colors indicate higher numbers of electrons,” according to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
