"As much as one quarter of ocean species depend on coral reefs for food or shelter," according to NASA. Rising sea levels and temperatures threaten these important ecosystems, which also play an important role economically around the world. NASA's Coral Reef Airborne Laboratory (CORAL) has studied the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia and has several other targets planned.
