Irregular Lonely Old Dwarf Galaxy Is Long Lost Cousin | Video

Located on the outskirts of our Local Group, the dwarf galaxy named Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte (WLM) may never have interacted with any other galaxy! Small and without much structure, this ragtag star cloud should provide astronomers with a remarkable look at the "primordial nature of galaxies" according the European Southern Observatory. It’s thought such irregular dwarves merged to form larger galaxies and new epochs of star formation elsewhere.
