Sunspot AR2158 produced a X1.6-class flare on September 10th, 2014. The site of the blast faced where Earth would be if a coronal mass ejection (CME) was emitted. Imagery not yet fully returned from orbiting observatories will be checked for this. (Full Story)
A CME could reach Earth in 2 to 3 days according to Spaceweather.com. There is the potential for communications disruptions and powerful auroras if geomagnetic storms are triggered.
