Galileo Satellites Fail To Reach Correct Orbit - Launch Video
By Steve Spaleta |
A Soyuz ST-B rocket blasted off from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana with a payload of two Full Operational Capability (FOC) satellites for the Galileo constellation. The rocket company Arianespace announced that there was a "discrepancy between targeted and reached orbit" after the launch (not in video). An investigation is ongoing.
These are the first two fully operational satellites to support Europe's satellite navigation system to be launched. Four satellites were previously launched for in-orbit validation.
