Candidate 'Goldilocks' Planets Debunked, New Research Finds | Animation

Turns out that two candidate planets thought to reside in the habitable zone of red dwarf star Gliese 581 are not planets at all. New research by astronomers at Penn State University finds that the signals were just magnetic activity from the star. (Full Story)

Visualization Key:
Blue = candidate planets in the just-right region inside or near the habitable zone
Orange = detections in the too-hot region that is too close to the star
Green = detections in the too-cold region farther away from the star and outside the habitable zone
