Universal Speedometer: Ancient Supernova Clocks the Cosmos

Just as the Egyptian Pyramid project began, a Type 1supernova exploded about 16,000 light-years from Earth. G299.2-2.9 is one of the oldest remnants known and can help measure the expansion of the Universe, a vital gauge of Dark Energy.
