Matt Keeslar will play the evil Feyd Rautha in the miniseries Frank Herbert's Dune, the Sci Fi Channel said Friday.
The villainous role of "lovely Feyd" follows on the heels of Keeslar's turn in the upcoming Scream 3. Keeslar, 27, will play the actor playing the role of good-natured policeman "Dewey" Riley, a recurring character in the films, in the film-within-a-film "Stab 3".
The young performer has also appeared in such films as Splendor (1999), The Last Days of Disco (1998), Waiting for Guffman (1996) and The Stupids (1996).
After Keeslar wraps up filming on Texas Rangers opposite James Van Der Beek and Dylan McDermott, he will join the cast and crew of the Dune miniseries, which has already begun shooting in Prague.
Keeslar will be taking on a role played with wide-eyed, orgasmic luster by pop singer Sting in the 1984 David Lynch film. Feyd, a brilliant warrior, is one of the story's chief villains and direct foil to hero Paul Atreides, to be played by newcomer Alec Newman.
Other cast members include William Hurt as Duke Leto Atreides, Ian McNeice as Baron Harkonnen and Uwe Ochsenknecht as Stilgar.
The miniseries was written by John Harrison, best known for Tales From the Darkside: The Movie and episodes of the TV series Earth 2. Harrison is also directing the project.
The Sci Fi Channel expects to air the two-part miniseries in the fourth quarter of 2000.
